Field Manager
Family-owned Seattle heating, cooling & air quality experts since 1938. Furnace, AC, heat pump & ductless service across Greater Seattle. (206) 243-7700.
The Field Manager is one of two co-equal leads running an operations team, partnering with the Project Manager and reporting to the Operations Manager. This role owns the people and the work: seven field staff performing both service and installation, trained and held to one standard by one person. The centerpiece of the job is a site visit every day (a pre-inspection, a ride-along, a jobsite walk or a completed-work review), with a developing technician alongside whenever possible.
Compensation: $85,000 to $110,000 base salary, depending on qualifications. Full-time, exempt (salaried), paid biweekly.
Schedule: We run a 4/10 schedule, four 10-hour days per week, 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a one-hour unpaid lunch. Team One works Monday through Thursday and Team Two works Wednesday through Saturday. As an exempt leadership role, additional hours beyond the scheduled rotation are expected as business needs require, including presence on jobs that run long.
What you'll do
- Make one site visit every working day, rotating across pre-inspections, service ride-alongs, install jobsite walks and completed-work reviews.
- Pre-inspect every install before it is scheduled, and hold any job that cannot be installed as sold.
- Run the 90-day program for every new technician, with documented ride-alongs and same-day scorecard reviews.
- Cross-train technicians into installation and installers into maintenance and basic service, so the team can flex between both.
- Own technician performance, diagnostic quality, first-time fix rate and callback investigation.
- Coach technicians to build repair quotes onsite, the same day.
- Manage install-day timing and follow the company install checklist on every job; be on site for complex or high-risk installs.
- Inspect completed installs for workmanship, commissioning and code compliance, and own the install punch list.
- Lead and hold all seven team members accountable to company standards, and own every performance review on the team, including the 30-, 60-, 90-day and 6-month new hire reviews.
- Own jobsite and vehicle safety, and promote compliance with OSHA standards, EPA requirements, manufacturer instructions and applicable codes.
- Connect with your Project Manager partner every day on job readiness, parts, crew days and problem jobs.
- Recommend hiring and staffing decisions to the Operations Manager and General Manager, who give final approval.
What We're Looking For
- High school diploma or equivalent; trade school or apprenticeship completion preferred
- 5+ years of HVAC experience with real depth in both service diagnostics and installation
- 2+ years leading or supervising technicians, installers or crews
- Strong diagnostic ability on gas furnaces, heat pumps, air conditioners, ductless systems and light commercial equipment
- Working knowledge of equipment placement, line set routing, venting, condensate, duct design and airflow
- Valid EPA 608 certification required; NATE preferred
- Washington State 06A electrical specialty certification preferred, or the ability to evaluate work performed under it
- Demonstrated ability to teach: to explain the why behind the work, not just correct the result
- Working knowledge of ServiceTitan for documentation, estimates and reporting
- Solid understanding of OSHA standards, EPA requirements and applicable mechanical and electrical codes
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record
Physical demands: daily travel to jobsites and customer homes in a company vehicle; frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crouching and climbing ladders; work in attics, crawlspaces, garages, mechanical rooms and rooftops, including confined spaces; ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs; exposure to heat, cold, dust, noise and varying weather; required protective equipment on every jobsite; periodic office and computer work.
What We Offer
- Paid holidays: New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day
- Paid time off for sick or vacation use, accrued on hours worked
- Medical, dental, life and disability insurance available the first of the month following 60 days of employment; Glendale pays 90% of the employee group-health premium
- 401(k) and Profit Sharing Plan eligibility after the plan's waiting period (currently one year of service)
- Team performance bonus
